People-Centered Policy

I believe government exists to support the well-being of it’s citizens in the least invasive way possible.

I believe in the public process for decision-making and that the best public policy comes from listening to residents from all parts of the city and from multiple perspectives.

Read more about my specific priorities are below.

Ideas & Issues

  • Public safety is the most expensive item in our city budget…and I think that makes sense. Safe neighborhoods, with routine police presence and quick response times, protect all North Salt Lake residents, our families and our homes.

I support a well-resourced police department where employees are well-trained, well-equipped and well-compensated. I have consistently voted to support ongoing funding for the police department and funding for new requests.

North Lake Lake experiences relatively low crime rates and I want to keep it that way, in every area of our city.

  • The proposed Homeless Campus in SLC will absolutely impact NSL and our city needs to take action. I, along with the entire city council, are firmly against this project.

I have already been in active discussions to call out the impracticality of this macro-shelter model. Best practice in homeless services, points to smaller, micro-shelters. Utah has seen success in these micro-shelters. I believe we should invest in more micro-shelters rather than congregate our unhoused population together in a giant campus. Microshelters disperse the impact of homeless services on a community and better help unhoused individuals to integrate in a community with access to services, housing and jobs.

I am actively working with city staff and police chiefs from NSL and SLC to put in place city ordinances that will prohibit some of the negative spillover associated with facilities like this, such as: no parking ordinances, no loitering, and park curfews.

I support a satellite location of the NSL Police Dept on Center street in Foxboro, for an active and visual police presence and quicker response times.

  • The main job of the city council is to review and pass the city budget.

The city budget is funded by your tax dollars. I take very seriously the job of deciding where that money should be spent. Budget decisions must balance high quality city services and infrastructure with purposeful, and efficient use of taxes.

In NSL, we receive taxes from residents and business both small and large in the industrial part of our city. I want to increase our tax base by expanding economic growth through commercial development.

I believe local government should support everyday, working families through reliable municipal services like water, garbage collection and sewer. I support careful negotiations for these contracted services so NSL residents get the best value for their tax dollars.

  • Rising prices and high interest rates increasingly mean today’s young families are being priced out of home ownership. I grew up in Bountiful and bought a home in North Salt Lake, the town next door.

First, my husband and I rented an apartment in NSL, then we bought a small home and later expanded to a larger home as our family size grew to six.

I want to keep North Salt Lake residents in our communities, and protect them from being priced out by new development. I want our residents to have a wide range of housing options in size and pricing. And I think we’re doing a good job.

NSL has more high density housing than our neighboring communities. I actually like that about NSL. That’s part of what made NSL appealing to my family 18 years ago.

North Salt Lake is already providing our share of high density housing. I do not believe It is NSL’s job to offer endless high density housing options or development.

  • I support preserving access to outdoor spaces and expanding parks and trails so all residents can can enjoy our beautiful mountains, sunsets, and walking paths.

I have advocated for a trail around each park. That work was important in approving the trail around Legacy Park and the access trail at Fox Holl Park to Foxboro Elementary school.

The Hatch Park renewal project is expensive and requires careful oversight. This project will leave a legacy of open spaces and parks for residents today and for years to come.

  • North Salt Lake children deserve great schools and skilled, happy teachers and staff.

The city has no authority over school funding, school curriculum or school boundaries but we can play a role in supporting our school.

The state legislature sets funding for our schools,. The Davis School District decides how to allocate those funds and sets curriculum and boundaries. I am actively involved in advocating for our local schools with our state legislators and our school board representative.

I am proud to have worked to connect our neighborhood schools with the city through initiating the :

    • 5th Grade Field Trip to Eaglewood Golf Course

    • Walking Field Trips to city locations like the Foxboro Wetlands Trail,

    • School and City Service days where we students have picked up litter, worked on landscaping projects, planted trees.

    • NSL Courts Field Trip for junior high Mock Trials classes.

    • City visitors for assemblies and class room discussions. I’m honored to have visited so many of our NSL schools as a representative of the city.

  • North Salt Lake is full of unique, charming, quaint, modern, open, cozy, active, and interesting neighborhoods. Our city runs from the top of the mountains all the way out to the Great Salt Lake. And we are full of character in between.

I want to showcase the wide variety of neighborhoods in our city. I want to build a sense of city identity and pride among our residents. It feels very different to live near the golf course than it does to near Hwy 89 and than it feels to live in Foxboro.

I support purposeful and active marketing so NSL can share the story of our city, on that reflects what we really love about living here.

I support investing in neighborhood centers in the three main areas of our city - the eastside, mid-town and Foxboro.

I want to build community councils in each area, that can share with the city council, what issues are most important for them. I want the city to host a city council meeting in each of these areas.

  • I am committed to defending the rights of all individuals, including, racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, women, LGBTQ folks, and those practicing their faith. Every resident of North Salt Lake deserves to live free from discrimination and fear. I believe in respect, freedom, and dignity for all.
